Holiday Time in the High Desert
Let's go rafting! Just kidding, unless you are a fan of icicles hanging from your nose and ears. Though rafting season is over for the year, your guides are working hard! Some are working hard on their tan down in Baja and Costa Rica while many more are working hard on their goggle tan up on Mt Bachelor and Whistler. It is a hard life but someone has to live it.
Speaking of Mt Bachelor, the season on the hill is going great to date, they have received 159 inches of snow and currently have a base of 54 inches. Pretty sweet to be able to ride or ski on over 4 feet of snow by mid December, you can put that rock board away and get ready for the pow pow! Central Oregon is beautiful this time of year, while the mountain has been getting plenty of snow the weather in Bend has been great. This is the time of year where you can get in some awesome multi-sport days, hit the mountain in the morning, maybe a short cross country ski after that for your cardio and then top it off with some kayaking(so we are a little nuts) or a bike ride(road or mountain). If you don't like those options many of the area golf courses are still open providing another way to unwind. Too much activity? Then simply stop off at Cascade Lakes Lodge on your way back from the mountain for a delicious brew, burger and fries. Bend, the place to live if you don't want your vacation to end, that is why I moved here.

Elk Lake Resort - Cabin Rentals from "Rustic Log" to "Modern Resort"
For the full winter nature experience take a trip out to Elk Lake Resort. 11 miles from Mt Bachelor, Elk Lake Lodge is not accessible by road in the winter. Access options include cross country skiing, snowmobile, or reserve a seat on the Elk Lake Resort snow-cat. Skiing in can be very pleasant as that part of the trip is mostly downhill obviously meaning mostly uphill on the way out so unless you are really hardcore you will probably want to opt for the snow-cat.
Once at the Lodge enjoy groomed Nordic trails, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, enjoy a good book by the fire as well as meals prepared by Chef Tim Murphy.
